Seiring dengan tuntutan profesional tenaga kesehatan, maka Persatuan Perawat Nasional Indonesia (PPNI) dan Ikatan Bidan Indonesia (IBI) menuntut adanya peningkatan kemampuan profesional dari tenaga Perawat maupun Bidan. PPNI menghimbau kepada seluruh tenaga Perawat meningkatkan profesionalismenya sehingga diharapkan pada tahun 2020 seluruh tenaga perawat Indonesia mempunyai basic pendidikan minimal S1 Keperawatan.
